Read the Directions:

Use the new pin or a long, straight object (like a nail or a jewelers screwdriver, roughly the same size as the pin hole) to tap out the old pin. 

Place the new pin (or ther tool) on one side of the lever hole and use the rubber mallet (or small hammer) to tap the pin until the old pin starts to slide out of the other side. Remove the old pin once enough of it is out of the hole.

Using the new pin, tap it halfway into the first hole, then place the cable inside the lever groove and tap the pin through the cable hole and into the other side of the lever.
